“Mother left me with the saltshaker and a bruised head. I had to kill them or else. Just placing the slimy worms back into the grass was not enough; they had to die horribly. My sister was in tears, she couldn’t understand why I had to kill her friends on the front steps that evening. She was the only child that I knew who loved everything, including slugs. Her soft brown child eyes had gazed into mine, her little hands tugged on my face to meet hers. “You can pretend to kill them Allen,” she pleaded. It disturbed me when the old hag returned only to drag my sister away by her fine hair. Apparently, she was keeping me from my current duty. I had to end this.
The saltshaker slid in my sweating palm. She had returned. I could feel her eyes piercing the back of my skull. I held the shaker over one of the creatures and shook it a bit. I heard mother’s heavy footsteps fade away. The few grains that I released fell like fire. The afflicted worm looked at me with seeming surprise with its remaining eye that sat atop its shiny black tower of slime. They all began to look at me in dismay as I shook. I attacked all of them. Their shiny black bodies shriveled into small bits of charred flesh. Finally, it was over.”
Here is yet another teaser. Please feel free to leave a comment.
